Owner, Beatty Canyon Ranch
Session: A Decade of Progress: USRSB Past Leadership Panel

Steve and Joy have shared 47 wonderful years living the rural lifestyle with their family. Their daughters, Niki (married to Rusty Henard) and Arin (married to Brady Burnham), contribute to their multi-generational, faith-based ranching enterprise in Colorado’s Purgatoire River Canyons, where the family has raised cattle since 1929. For nearly 30 years, they have managed a rotational grazing plan with their Red Angus herd, focusing on range health and a strong maternal line. To adapt to drought and market fluctuations, they have diversified into big game hunting, landscape stone sales, and a modest vacation program. He has been on the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association Steering Committee since 2009, the Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust committees since 2010, and the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef since 2017. In 2023, he was appointed to the Colorado Brand Commission Board of Directors. Beatty Canyon Ranch received the NCBA Region V and National Environmental Stewardship Awards in 2020.
